The simpleness of its romanesque structure highlights its whole beauty and splendor.

This church was erected on behalf of San Nicolás between the XII and the XIII century, it is thought that under a strong influence of Master Mateo, and belonged to San Juan de Jerusalén Order. It was moved stone by stone from its original place to its current situation, since the dam it was thought to be constructed would flood completly the old village of Portomarín..
As a romanesque building, it is, may be, one of the most shocking of all Galicia. It attracts specially the attention its constructive unity, the vertical position of its walls and the pseudmilitary topped merlon shape.
Portormarín is obliged passage for pilgrims in their way to Santiago de Compostela and as a village at a reservoir the eel it is really tasty!
