Pontevedra in Galicia

The roman had given to Pontevedra the name of Pontis Veteris, "Old Bridge". But a legend says that the town is some centuries older. The greek hero Teukros may have founded it in year 1200 before Christ.
It is a small village, very charming, with its own main square "Praza do Teucro", which is well known due to its beauty and to the orange trees, "naranjos". The "Iglesia de la Peregrina" was built in 1778 by Antonio de Souto, designing the main floor's shape like a Jacob's musel. Mary is represented as a pilgrim inside the church. She is the saint patron of the village. To honour her the town organizes a festivity in August with a lot of music concerts from the galician music scene.
