Os Ancares: the galician myth is already Biosfere Reserve. Those who love mountains, valleys and peaks, indigenous forests, flora and fauna must go for a walk in Os Ancares. And, if possible, as a pilger, like many others do towards Santiago de Compostela, after leaving castillian land and getting into Galicia.
As Biosfere Reserve and hunting preserve is a paradise for nature lovers.
From Becerreá, at kilometre 459 on A-6 highway, one gets into Os Ancares. Valleys and mountains rest undaunted, pure wild nature. Occasionally, one reaches a hamlet where inhabitants show themselves curious and close...
Going further on the road to Navia de Suarna is placed Liber. Here we can choose among two possible ways which meet finally in Degrada, the first one extends itself for 40 km and the second one for 33 km. Following further, trough the highest road of Galicia, we reach San Román de Cervantes. In San Román and in Piornedo it is possible to stay overnight in each of both hostel. Among the different species of trees which we can find along the way, there are plenty of old oaks but one will see as well yew trees, chestnuts, holy trees, willows, poplars. Unbelievable. |
