Lugo - A city with a complete roman wall Lugo has, among many other treasures, an amazing atmosphere due to its roman wall. The wall is not partially conserved, but completely. It is impossible to say the same for any other wall in Spain. It has only be restored in some parts during the Middle Ages but its form has not been modified. It is 2,13 km long and the average height is 11 meter. It is worth to visit it.
The cathedral had, in the beginning, a roman style architecture which evolved, later on, in baroque. The patron saint of Lugo is San Froilán. The chapel in the northwest of the cathedral was dedicated to him.
It is almost a must to go for a walking through the old part of town, where all the streets are very nice. The Provincial Museum is really interesting and, for a town with the size of Lugo, exceptional. It is possible to find models of buildings of the region and also mills and "pallozas", a typical construction in the southeast of the province. |
