Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea this coast presents beautiful beaches and craggy cliffs.

The popular belief says that "To San Andrés de Teixido goes the death man who did not go alive". We could locate at this point the begining of the Rías Altas which, covering all the galician north side, it would end in Ribadeo. The cliffs of San Andrés de Teixido are the highest in Europe and the view is astonishing. They are no far away from Ferrol and both the shire, called la Ferrolterra, and the neighbouring municipalities deserve a stop: Betanzos, Pontedeume, Valdoviño, Miño, etc.

Specifically in Cedeira, in the middle of the beauty and rugged Ría with the same name, starts the Capelada mountain range which takes in the Sanctuary of San Andrés de Teixido. 612 metres of free fall honours it as the highest among the european cliffs.

If we advance to the east we will reach Santa Marta de Ortigueira. The ría of O Barqueiro seems taken from a fairy tale and the beaches are very nice. The cape of Estaca de Bares divides the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo and it is the northest point of the iberian peninsula.

Once in the province of Lugo we will find Viveiro. In this place of Lugo's coast, really crowded during the summer, it is really well known the celebration of the party of San Roque. The city centre it is wonderful and it is worth a visit. The next villages are Cervo, Foz and, finally, Ribadeo. The beach of the cathedrals is amazing but, due to the beauty of the forms excavated in the rocks by the sea, it is full with people so we recommend to visit if off season.
