The Holy Sacrament is exposed since time immemorial in the Main Chapel.

It is thought that the cathedral can be the first church of Lugo, although there is no proof that that's true. The bishop Odoario, in the middle of the VIII century, was in charge of carrying out the works in order to rehabilitate the preexistent building. Due to the new constructed temple's beauty it was used, by order of Alfonso II El Casto, as base and pattern for the construction of Oviedo's cathedral.

In 1129 the bishop Pedro III, supported by other relevant persons of the town, was forced to erect a new building due to the damages suffered by the old construction through wars and lack of construction materials. Master Raimundo undertook the works under the prevailing architectural style of that period, the romanesque, and structured a building formed by three naves, transept and a three apse head.

In the course of time, and until the end of the XIX century, the cathedral of Lugo has been suffering several reforms which have lent it different own styles each of them corresponding a period of time: gothic, baroque and Renaissance.

It is not a piece specially well know of the spanish romanesque, nevertheless, Romanesque's lovers will be surprised.
