Castro de Viladonga. A trip to a celtic past.

The Castro de Viladonga is an excellent proof of the celtic past of Galicia. It shows up the close-knit relationship with the other six historic celtic nations.

It is 20 minutes, by car, from the city of Lugo away. It is, may be, one of the best preserved castros of the whole galician military castros heritage and, may be the only one which is practically complete. Even a light rise of ground, typical of these constructions, surrounds the whole settlement which allows the visitor to go round by foot and with a view of it, from which it is said that it was settled 1500 years ago.

Obviously, impartially considered, they are no more than a tidy collection of stones but we do not must forget that they were celtic villages where this village's life took place on a daily basis and, moreover, in this very case, the Castro de Viladonga remained, and it is almost impossible to say the same from many others, free from major assaults or flaws.

The museum is a great exhibition of the kind of life which took place in the castros and its celtic culture. It is free and the guide, only in spanish available, costs one euro.
