The situation of Castro de Santa Tegra could not be more strategic: in the southwest of Galicia, in a Miños's riverside mount, bordering on the natural hispanic-portuguese border.

The slope, of great unevenness, confers this castro a natural defensive character, and one must not forget that it had one wall (still today partly identifiable) which guaranteed even more the inhabitant's security.

Its origins go back to the emperor Augusto's period, around the I century before Christ. It is, undoubtedly, a galaic-roman village.

The distribution of this castro consists of what we could call neighborhoods, structured by streets and narrow squares. There are some reconstructed houses, with a circular based construction and where it is usual to find typical elements and archaeological construction traces such as stone ovens. The castro was left at the end of Julio and Claudio's period, around 68 after Christ, and it is, therefore, a roman castro.

Due to the large number of found objects an archaeological museum was opened beside the castro: sculptures, coins and tools are shown in all their greatest splendor.
