Galicia and its important capital The legends says that the holy apostle Santiago came from Palestina to encourage the people to believe in Jesus. After his death, his companions brought him to Galicia to bury him here.
Since the discovery in the 9th century, the mankind comes to Santiago to redeem his sins and to ask for help. In the beginning the people from the village around Santiago came to visit the apostle, then they came from around the world. Due to the large number of pilgrims heading towards Santiago the Jacob 's way or French Way was developed as the main way, which starts from different places in France.
Several churches, convents, chapels were built near by the way by some congregations to allow the pilgrims to pray. Today is still possible to stare at them astonished.
Nowadays people from different origins enjoy the way to Santiago. Besides the faithfull pilgrims, there are as well people looking for culture, arquitecture, nature or just walking. |
